Be sure your book is a match:
Honestly….that’s not hard. We’re open to pretty much any genre. Romance, horror, non-fiction, sci-fi, time travel, speculative, poetry, historical fiction and more.
Our key criteria is: the podcast is G rated. I taught music lessons for 32 years. Your readings need to be something I don’t mind my young music students hearing when I recommend the show to their parents. Your book doesn’t need to be Mary Poppins but nothing sexually or violently graphic.
Do not hound me.
I write this because of a recent incident of multiple emails in only four days. Books & Brews is at the moment a work of love, of putting out books I think have some benefit or authors with a message I think have some benefit.
Authors are not paying me for putting out their interviews. My days involve taking care of the animals on our farm and working on my own writing and marketing. In the last year or so, I’ve had several people send me repeated emails demanding answers or demanding I do things for them (despite them having paid me nothing to do these services they demand).
I work hard to go through the many emails I receive asking for interviews, to look at the author websites, to see what the author is about, what their books are about, to read the samples. I put time into this. When I get these emails, I may also have a busy week on the farm.
Recently, that was getting rams to slaughter, which involved numerous hours: separating the rams from the flock which is rarely an easy job, feeding the rams separately until the day arrived, building the chute from their separate area to the livestock trailer, the actual day of herding them through the chute in which they are not always cooperative, the 2+ hour drive to the slaughter-house, a couple of pick-up days each of which involves a two+ hour round drive, buying the freezer to store the meat (another few hours), and more. I still have not broken down the temporary chute or ordered the cattle panels to build the more permanent chute. All of this is on top of daily feeding of approximately 70 animals and my own writing.
This isn’t just about me. When you’re contacting anyone about being on their program, remember that their life is likely far more than the podcast they’re doing. Very few people are making a living off their podcast.
So if you’d like to be on Books & Brews, please email me. Email me back if you haven’t heard from me in 10 days or so because I am trying to keep up with emails and dozens of animals. But PLEASE: do not email me multiple times in a week.
